Dr. Sally I'Anson (Team Leader) has a unique capacity to stay entirely focused on student outcomes in complicated or conflicting leadership environments. Dr. I’Anson has a passion for using data to improve student achievement. Under her leadership, Hampton City Schools developed a data support model that was recognized and awarded by the American Society for Quality in 2008. She also led teacher teams and central office staff in creating high quality, tightly aligned, reliable and valid benchmark assessments for students in grades 2-11 in English, math, science and history. In addition, she implemented a very effective benchmark data reporting system in Hampton and trained administrators and teachers to use the software effectively.

Dr. I’Anson has held a wide range of positions in both public and private education. She taught high school French, served as a K-12 independent school principal, served as the supervisor for Research and Evaluation for Title I in Portsmouth Public Schools and served most recently as the Executive Director of Instructional Accountability in Hampton City Schools. She has also taught graduate education courses at Old Dominion University to students aspiring to be education leaders.

Dr. I’Anson holds a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Teachers College, Columbia University. She holds a master's degree in educational leadership from the University of Maine and bachelor's degrees from William and Mary in Economics and French.

    • Revised school transcripts to reflect a more widely used and technologically advanced format to record student achievement
    • Facilitated implementation of improved accounting and bookkeeping and reporting procedures
    • Created and implemented a comprehensive technology initiative designed to integrate technology into the curriculum

       Planning, Finance and Budgeting

    • Conducted a comprehensive analysis of short and long term capital improvement needs
    • Renovated the school library including installing air-conditioning, and completely re-cataloguing the entire library collection.  This renovation and long-term improvement plan was supported by a yearly fund-raising event.
